Because in the end it is all worth it.

I know there are lots of things I do pretty well. One thing I do extremely well is get the flu. And keep it. This is my third bout of the flu this year, and I can't figure out why I keep getting it. I asked my doctor and he told me that when I got mono (about 8 years ago) that my immune system was severely devestated. I don't remember very much of it. I recall having a very high fever and being freezing cold, my mother screaming at various doctors over the telephone, the hospital, and the incredible, horrendous pain of having my tonsils swollen to the size of golf balls.
They told me I could have died had I not gotten into the hospital when I did. It was a terrifying thought, and everytime I think of it I think of all the things I wouldn't have gotten to do if my life had ended at the age of 19. I never would have had a ceiling fall on my head at a strip club, New Years Eve 99. I never would have gotten married, or divorced. I never would have met all my wonderful friends and had the time of my life. I never would have gone to work for Dr. Elam, one of the finest people I've ever known. I never would have met Troy, I never would have won a stupid poetry award or had my picture in the stupid paper. In the end, if it comes down to being in this world or getting sick a lot, I think the flu is a small, if inconvenient price to pay.
